Of course you do. And knowing that, we’ve got a series of great weekly, monthly and annual events coming up for you that are perfect for doing both of those things.

First up are our weekly Friday Guided Games series, where we bring you brand new games hosted by their creators and enthusiasts. This is a fun easy way to try new games and meet new people in a friendly neighborhood environment. This month our series features Terrene Odyssey on the 10th, Shadow of the Elder Gods & Skulldug on the 17th and, on the 24th, as part of our very special Party Games Edition hosted by Special Guest JoJo Stiletto, Professor of Nerdlesque, we’ve got Slash, That’s What She Said and Just Four Kicks for you.

Your host, in her natural environment.

Your host, in her natural environment.

Next up is our monthly Queer Geek Boardgame Meetup on the last Sunday of every month featuring brunch drink specials and a particularly gay friendly environment (let’s be real, our environment is always gay, lesbian, trans, poly & queer friendly, that’s just how we do, but on Queer Geek Sundays we really try to go all out).

Our Sunday staff have even been known to cosplay a bit for it.

We’re still trying to find the right look for it. Something that says, “come in, enjoy a mimosa.”

And finally, if you really (a lot of italics this week) want to meet new people and try new games then this (see what I mean?) is your lucky weekend because it’s International Tabletop Day this Saturday which means that we’ll have games and hosts coming in from Passport Games, Laboratory Games and Game Company Number 3, Across the Board Games, A Podcast for All Intents & Purposes and Geek Out Trivia to demo and teach you and your fellow Hillfolk new games in a friendly, welcoming environment all day long.

So come on out! Meet some new people and play some new games. It’s safe, it’s fun, it’s friendly and it’s happening all the time right here at Capitol Hill’s Geek HQ, the Raygun Lounge.

Come on up and see us!

We’re just a short walk away from the Convention Center through Seattle’s premiere Capitol Hill neighborhood. Not only do we have food, drinks (including a beer and cider bar), a tabletop game library and a retro arcade for you

but we’ve got great events for you all weekend long!

Starting with Party Games Night on Friday Night! Across the Board Games, That’s What She Said, Skulldug and Sindicate Lager team up to bring you a fun, friendly, welcoming night of party gaming. This is a GREAT way to get to know people and start your con right.

Then, Saturday, at noon and 4pm. We give you your first chance anywhere to draft Magic’s exciting new Dragons of Tarkir set. Drafts will be 2 Dragons 1 Fate, cost $15 per person, run in three round swiss style pods of 8 and have generous prize support. This is a GREAT way to give the new set a spin and come out with some high value cards.

Then, on Saturday Night, come and join the creators of Rat Queens and their special guests from throughout the comics industry for our 2nd Annual Rat Queens Social Club, a meet and greet benefit for Gay City.

Rat Queens

And finally, to help you recover from the Rat Queens Social Club and the Pink Party, our BFFs from Queer Geek are hosting a special Comicon edition of their monthly Boardgame Meetup for you to meet people, play games and have a GREAT Emerald City Comicon experience!

So come on up and see us! We promise that we’ll have something fun and engaging for you to do see and experience every day that you are here from noon until at least 10pm every night (later on Saturday 😉 ).

FRI MAY 16 Save Clara! Doctor Who Costume Party and Fundraiser

Our resident Dalek, Clara, has taken some wear and tear during her year of convention appearances and lounge guest photo ops and, with her creator living on an income so fixed it’d make your head spin, it’s up to us to save her! So we’re holding a night of special Clara themed viewing and gaming, hosting a Whovian costume contest (Come in as a Doctor, companion or villain and have a drink on us! Best costume per category wins prizes!) raffling off an array of door prizes and donating $1 from the sale of every item sold to funding much needed repairs, improvements and upgrades for our beloved cybernetic organism.

FRI MAY 30 Rice Sniffing Gangster Party with Amanda Chan

Raygun Netrunner Team Captain Amanda’s mother got her a new rice cooker and to celebrate we’re throwing down a double feature of the finest rice-fetishizing-Japanese-gangster movies the world has ever known; Branded to Kill and it’s gender-swapped remake by the same director, Seijun Suzuki, Pistol Opera. Amanda will be on hand to serve sticky rice balls from the cooker that kicked it all off and maybe hand out some of the custom t-shirts and underwear we’re talking about commissioning for the event.

Mmmmmm… rice.

We’ve wrapped up the holidays

and are diving back into organizing our regular gaming events. Here’s a list of everything that we have available for you in the near future.

If you’re interested in Magic: The Gathering, you’re inevitably aware that Gatecrash prereleases in two weeks. We’ll be having 5 separate prerelease events for Gatecrash, Friday the 25th at Midnight, and Saturday and Sunday at noon and 5pm daily. These will all be sealed events using the special prerelease faction packs. Our prerelease tournaments are Swiss Style and our prize support is generous. Preregistration is now open at both the lounge and the shop and all of these events are filling fast.

If you’re interested in Warmachine, our new Press Ganger, Anna, is organizing our first Journeyman League this Thursday.

If you’re into roleplaying, we have a number of options for you, including Dungeons & Dragons Living Forgotten Realms and Fantasy Flight’s new Star Wars: Edge of Empire every Wednesday and Story Games Seattle every Thursday. If you’re even more into roleplaying than that, we have a special monthly Story Games Playtesting event available for you as well.

And if you’re just into board and card games overall (the hottest trend in either right now is Android: Netrunner) we have regular Tuesday night and Sunday afternoon boardgaming events cohosted by the Seattle Alternative Boardgamers and Queer Geek Seattle as well as monthly Ladies Nights with Ashley Cook and Slog Nerdy Happy Hours with your friends over at the Stranger Testing Department.

If you’d like more info about the events we’re hosting on any given week, head over to our recently updated events page and if you have any questions or would like to reserve a table for your own personal gaming event, just send us an email at raygunlounge@gammaraygamestore.com and we’ll get back to you just as soon as we can.

Thanks. And have a great new year.

Wow. The 48 hours since we launched our Raygun Lounge Kickstarter have been amazing, exciting and, at times, a bit… emotional.

Take last Saturday morning when Seattle’s Queer Geeks scheduled an impromptu meeting with me to discuss some “concerns” that they had with the phrasing of some of our Kickstarter pledge descriptions. With us having recently sponsored, provided t-shirts for and walked with their Pride parade float, figured it was going to be all

but when they all showed up wearing leather vests and headbands

and I realized that it was going to be a lot more

So I start hitting AB AB hoping to figure out how the kick and strike work when their lead negotiator pulls a CD Right Trigger Power Combo and just as I’m wondering how many buttons these things even have on them, their wartime consigliere, who shall remain nameless lest I reveal him to be Andrew, shouts “Phoenix Wright Objection Strike!” and pulls out his own controller and while I’m whining about how I thought this this was a sidescroll fighter they all yell 3vP Multiscreen and just go to town on me for the next twenty minutes straight. Absolutely brutal, I tell you. Toughest negotiation I’ve ever experienced.

On the happy side, their PAX Prime Pink Party lounge date has been secured and is going to be totally great, our Kickstarter pledge goals have been adjusted appropriately, and Dominic got to overhear the most intense in-store business conversation since the legendary Tom Ko phone call of 2010.

And that was just Saturday morning.

Stay tuned for more daring tales of thrilling game store adventure with me, your host, Eric Logan.
